Getting started

Create your organization

An organization is your "company" inside Axerity — it holds the books, accounts, and files.

After signing in for the first time, you'll land on a Welcome page asking you to create your first organization.

What an organization is

In Axerity, an organization is a self-contained set of books and files. Each one has its own:

  • Chart of accounts
  • Journal entries / transactions
  • File workspace
  • Members
  • Currency
  • API keys

If you run multiple businesses, you'd create one organization per business. Most people only ever need one.

Filling out the form

Name. Whatever your business is called. You can change it later in Settings → Organization.

Currency. A three-letter ISO 4217 code — USD, EUR, GBP, INR, JPY, etc. This locks how amounts are displayed and how the books interpret your transactions. Pick the one your business actually operates in; changing it later means recomputing all your historical amounts.

What happens when you click Create

  1. A new organization is created with you as the Owner.
  2. A starter chart of accounts is generated — Cash, Checking, Accounts Receivable, Credit Card, Sales Revenue, Rent, Software, Owner's Equity, and a dozen others. You can add to it, archive what you don't use, and rename anything.
  3. You land on the dashboard.

Now you're ready to record something.
